…if we wait for the moment when everything,
absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin.
Ivan Turgenev |
Knowing is not enough;
We must apply.
Willing is not enough;
We must do.
Goethe |
Your talent is God's gift to you.
What you do with it is your gift back to God.
Leo Buscaglia |
Everybody can be great.
Because anybody can serve..
You only need a heart full of grace.
A soul generated by love.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. |
Enthusiasm is contagious..
Start an epidemic.

Organizations
and
Committees
We
held sweet converse together; within God's house we walked in
fellowship. Ps 55:14
This page
details some of the organizations that St. John's members can join. If you are already a member of St. John's,
please get involved!
The groups and committees are always happy to see new faces!
Joining a
committee or group is a great way to have fun while contributing some of
your time and talents to the church. Upcoming events that involve these groups will be listed in the
Happenings page. If you have any questions about any of the groups, or would like to
join, call the church office, or just
show up at the next event!
Junior
Youth Group
This group provides an
opportunity for youth in grades 1 through 6 to join together for
fellowship, learning, worship and service. Activities that the
group participates in range from preparing Mother's Day flower pots to Christmas caroling to
shut-ins to picnics.
Call the church office for more information or join in at the next event
as listed in the Youth
page. Parents of the youth are also encouraged to get involved with this
group's activities.
Tweeners
This group is designed for those of us
who are between the "Youth" and the "Young at Heart"
Senior group. Our motto is "Fun and Fellowship with a
Purpose!" We kicked off the group with a picnic in June, 2002,
where we played softball & croquet & had a great time of adult
fellowship. Since then some of our events have been a Car Rally,
some nice hikes, visiting a craft show, and a Mexican dinner and theme
night. Most recently was our second annual picnic!
Youth and Adult Choirs
The adult choir enhances our Sunday worship service with their beautiful vocal
talents. This choir rehearses Tuesday evenings, throughout the school
year, at 7:00 p.m. New members are always welcome. All you need to do is
be able to "carry a tune." Call the church office at
215-257-9643 for
more information, or join a rehearsal on Wednesday night.
The youth choir sings on about once per month and practices
during Sunday School. The group is open to
children and young adults ages 3 to 18 years. New voices are
welcome!
Young at Heart Seniors
The Young at Heart Seniors is
open to anyone over age 60 and provides an opportunity for members to
gather socially four times a year. They meet in St. John's Fellowship Hall
at 11:00 or 11:30 a.m. for a brief business meeting in which future plans and
suggestions are discussed. Lunch is then served at noon and may be
potluck, bag lunch or occasionally catered. After lunch, an hour or so of
entertainment, often by the group's own members, is enjoyed. Events
will be listed in the Happenings
page.
St. John's Crafters
The purpose of
the Crafters is to make crafts, candy and soups to help the less fortunate
in our area. We sell these articles to church members and the community to
raise money to enable us to purchase needed items for local charities. We
also organize an annual flea market in which we use the proceeds from table
rentals to also benefit charity.
Volunteer Staff
Member volunteers play a big
role in the life of St. John's. Volunteers are used as ushers, greeters,
acolytes, lectors, crucifers, bell ringers, council members, Sunday
morning nursery
staff, cantors, altar guild etc. God has given all of us special talents
and gifts, and this is one way to give some of our many blessings back to
Him. Call the church office at 257-9643 to volunteer! If you're hesitant
to volunteer because you're unsure of how to perform these duties, we
would be more that happy to teach you!
Outreach/Evangelism Committee
This committee is in charge of
projects to reach out to our community, such as organizing and fundraising
for the Lutheran Vespers radio ministry, and advertising. The committee
also gets involved in various fellowship events such as our Easter
Breakfast and Egg Hunt to benefit charity, picnics, and the annual
progressive dinner. New members are welcome, as are ideas for
fellowship events and for spreading St. John's message to our community.
New members are needed!
Social Ministry Committee
This committee
does a wonderful job putting our Christian faith into action. Through
social ministry programming, congregations live out the Lord's expectation
that we "feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the strangers,
and minister to the infirm and imprisoned. " (Matthew 25:35 & 36)
The committee supports many area charities through fund raisers, food
collections, hat & mitten collections etc. New members are wanted and
needed.
Worship and Music Committee
The Worship and Music committee assists and supports the
Pastor and Organist/Choir Director in the ministry of God's church. They
strive to provide a meaningful worship service while meeting the needs of
our ever-changing congregation. Call the church office at 215-257-9643 for more
information or to join.
Property Committee
This organization
is in charge of the upkeep of the church property. The work they do
is very hands-on and includes repairing and replacing fixtures as
needed, carpentry work for restoration and preservation, and grounds
maintenance. (Not lawn mowing or snow plowing - we have a service for
that.) Many hands make light work, so
if you have a knack for this type of work, please call the church office
at 215-257-9643 to join the committee.
Staff Support Committee
The purpose of
this committee is to develop open communication about expectations,
attitudes and concerns within the congregation and staff. The committee
also is in charge of annual staff reviews.
