The more we give of anything,
the more we shall get back.

The greatest good you can do for another
is not just share your riches,
but reveal to them their own.

If you can't feed a hundred people,
then feed just one.

Community
& Worldwide Ministries
For
I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I
was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was
sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. Matthew 25:35-36
Food Pantry
Every third
Sunday of the month is Food for the Hungry Sunday (or Food Pantry Sunday) at St. John's. Members
bring in canned and dry goods to support our food pantry. The food is then
given to local charities and to our own church community as needed. A
special collection is taken each Mother's Day to provide money for infant
formula for the Philadelphia Food Bank's Baby Manna Program.
Support of Local and Worldwide Charities
St. John's
members, through our Social Ministry Committee, support numerous charities
through collections and fundraisers. Some of the charities are the
Allentown Rescue Mission, Eagleville Hospital and Rehabilitation Center,
Martin Luther ~ Silver Springs School, and Habitat for Humanity. We also get involved in the annual Crop Walk and host two
Red Cross Blood Drives per year.
Individual Support
Members and
friends of St. John's receive individual support as needed, either from
our Pastor, or other members. Those who are ill or homebound are prayed
for and visited as
needed. Around Christmas, members go caroling to our shut-ins and take
them a tray of Christmas cookies prepared by our Youth Group.
Counseling is
available as needed from our Pastor, whether it be for grief, marriage,
spiritual needs, etc.
Baptism
is the liturgical rite which shows God's gracious and living acceptance of
us - at any age. In baptism, God freely offers his grace and establishes a
relationship with us. In baptism, God forgives sin, delivers us from death
and gives everlasting salvation to all who believe what he has promised.
Baptisms at St. John's are scheduled during the worship service, because
at this time the congregation receives the baptized as a member of the
family of faith. Speak with our pastor if you or anyone you know would
like to discuss this sacrament further.
Marriages
for members and friends of St. John's are usually preceded by
counseling by our pastor. Our sanctuary provides a beautiful surrounding
to ask God's blessing upon the union of two people in marriage. Weddings
are generally scheduled far in advance, so talk to our pastor as soon as
possible if you are planning this ceremony.
When the death
of a loved one occurs, members can call our pastor day or night to be with
them in this time of sorrow and to help make funeral arrangements.
Funerals can be held in the church, where every furnishing and symbol of
the sanctuary points to and speaks of our Lord, and eternal life through
Him.
