Learning
Opportunities at St. John's
A
man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the boldness of his face shall be
changed. -Ecclesiastes 8:1
Sunday School
Learning is a
lifelong process, and Sunday School is an excellent opportunity for people
of all ages to learn more about our Lord and Savior on a variety of
levels. Early
each fall, Rally Day marks the start of this learning opportunity. Classes are
available for all age groups, from age 2 to Adult. The classes meet from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Sunday morning during the school year. New members are always welcome,
even mid-year.
Vacation Bible School
For one
week each summer, children from our church and the surrounding community
gather each morning for a special learning opportunity at Vacation Bible
School. The activities revolve around a central biblical theme and include
crafts, stories, music and study. This event is usually held in early
August, with advanced registration requested. This learning
experience is for children beginning at age 3 and through 6th grade.
Check out the Happenings
page in early summer for exact dates and further information.
Midweek
Lenten Bible Study
The
season of Lent offers another special opportunity for learning. On
Wednesday evenings throughout this period, we gather to study God's word.
In the past, the evening has begun with a soup and sandwich supper,
followed by viewing a thought-provoking bible-based video series. A discussion of the
video follows, and then a communion service. Keep an eye on the Happenings
page in the early part of the year for more information.
Catechetical Classes
This is a
two-year program offered to 7th and 8th graders as a way to nurture the
student's faith commitment that was made at their baptism. The program has
been revised for this year to include more adult involvement. Adults will
serve as mentors, or guides, to make the experience more relational as
well as instructional. After the completion of the program, the students
make an Affirmation of Baptismal Vows in a ceremony held during a Sunday
service. We hope to have a luncheon this year following this service
to celebrate the graduate's accomplishments.
