MEMORIAL GARDEN POLICY

The St. John's Memorial Garden was envisioned by the late Jean McCluskey as a meditative place of rest and prayer, and as an appropriate site for the interment or scattering of human ash remains for any of God's people who have passed to eternal life.

It is hoped that this Garden provides peace, beauty, and comfort where members and their loved ones can be remembered. The Garden will stand as a reminder that those who went before us are not forgotten.

USAGE:

  • Human ash remains may be scattered by members of St. John's or Ridge Valley United Church of Christ.
  • Other Christians connected to the church by family or acquaintance may request permission of Church Council to use the Garden.
  • DONATION:

  • The suggested donation schedule for engraving the Memorial Plaque and for garden maintenance is as follows and may be revised periodically:
  • St John's Member $100
  • United Church of Christ Member $100
  • Nonmember with approval $150
  • PROCEDURE:

  • 1. Those wishing to utilize the Garden for ash dispersal should first contact the Pastor, the Memorial Chairman, or council representative.
  • 2. After securing permission the ashes may be scattered or carefully buried within the established Garden area. Click here for the diagram (diagram not currently available)
  • 3. This dispersal may be done as part of a religious service or at the discretion of the family.
  • 4. It is the family's responsibility to provide accurate information necessary for the plaque's inscription, and the church will have it engraved in the pre-selected standard font.
  • 5. No additions or changes may be made to the Garden area without permission of the committee or council.
