Property Committee

The purpose of the Property Committee is to support building maintenance, restoration and preservation of all church property. Ensuring the care of the physical plant of St. John's shows our love for God.

To meet this objective, the Property Committee conducts walk-around reviews of the inside and outside of the building and grounds once a year, arranges for immediate repair of conditions that would be dangerous or detrimental to St. John's ongoing ministry, and maintains a list of work needed to keep the buildings/grounds in good shape. The committee also identifies members who are skilled in building systems or grounds keeping and who are willing to use their gifts and skills for St. John's, and the committee reviews/regularly updates property information on the website and in other communications.

Many projects were completed in 2009, including:

  • Pressure washing and painting of the Handicap ramp.
  • Senior Youth Group painted and carpeted their Sunday School room.
  • New mulch was spread in the playground.
  • The Pastor's office was upgraded, including a new air conditioner.
  • New dishwasher was installed in the parsonage.
  • New carillon was installed due to the lightening strike.
  • The committee thanks all the many volunteers who dedicated time and care to these projects.

Major Project planned for 2010: Soliciting bids for, and replacing the sanctuary air conditioners.

The Property Committee welcomes new committee members. Gifts needed to serve on this committee include, love of God, knowledge about building systems or grounds keeping, and a willingness to do various tasks to fulfill the committee goals. The time involved in serving on this committee is to attend meetings as needed, and time spent on various tasks to support the work of the committee, sometimes with little notice. To discuss ideas, to join this committee, or for more information, please contact Fred Schirk, committee chair by contacting the church office.
