Outreach & Evangelism Committee The mission of the Outreach & Evangelism Committee is to show the welcoming love of God to all who enter St. John's. Evangelism (outreach) happens when we reach out to each other in our own congregation and to others close to St. John's and beyond to spread God's word, to help others, and to grow our church. Congregational outreach includes our fellowship events, such as our breakfasts, Young at Heart group, our annual picnic, and other Parish Life events. Community outreach includes supporting world hunger and area food pantries, Martin Luther Silver Springs School, and Katrina Builder's Fund. Some community projects can also qualify for supplemental funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and the Upper Bucks Chapter. (There have been some recent changes to this program, and Thrivent is still working out the new details for how congregational members may donate to their congregations). The Outreach & Evangelism Committee hopes to review strategies as well as choose and implement new strategies to welcome guests to worship and other church events, develop strategies for maintaining contact with all members, especially homebound and those who have not worshipped here for a while, and review/regularly update outreach information on the website and in other communications. There are many opportunities for outreach. This committee invites participation and ideas from the congregation. Gifts needed to serve on this committee include, love of God and neighbor, hospitality, creativity, and a willingness to do a variety of tasks to fulfill the committee goals. The time involved in serving is to attend meetings as needed, generally about every other month and also time spent in carrying out various tasks to support the work of the committee. To discuss ideas, to join this committee, or for more information, please contact Carolyn Hafler by contacting the church office. | ||||
